"The Keeper of Twilight - Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area" is an original acrylic and oil painting on canvas by Brian Christopher Zickafoose, measuring 36" x 24" x 2" and completed in 2016, involving approximately 150+ hours of meticulous craftsmanship.

Hues of autumn and twilight gracefully blend in the sky, setting the stage for the emergence of the screech owl from its hidden nook. This enchanting scene draws inspiration from an overnight hiking trip with the artist's wife and children at the Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area in 2015. The haunting crystal moon cast a brilliant glow, painting the night sky with a pale blue luminescence.

During their arrival, weary from their travels, a sudden shattering cry echoed through the air as the screech owl made its presence known. The artist, caught off guard, locked eyes with the owl, and a profound connection unfolded. The owl's intense gaze scrutinized every aspect of being, creating a moment that felt like an eternity. The spell was broken by the artist's inadvertent step on a twig, startling the feathered observer into a swift departure, disappearing into the night.

The following morning, fueled by the memory of the owl encounter, the artist and his family eagerly embarked on a hike through the breathtaking landscape at Seneca Rocks. As they rested later in the evening, the initial rough sketches for this painting took form, capturing the essence of that twilight encounter. This painting serves as a visual narrative of that mystical night, inviting viewers to share in the magic of the Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area.
